Puppies do a lot of things that we think are annoying, or wrong, or we just don't know why- These are not bad behavior or training issues, just random puppy things. Here are some common questions I see with their answers:
Q: Why does my puppy play in the water
bowl?
A: Because it's fun. You can say no and pick up the waterbowl, put it down later usually puppies grow out of this- in the meanwhile you can put it on a waterproof mat if necessary.
Q: Why does my puppy flip over his food bowl and eat off the floor?
Because it's fun. You could try feeding him using a lick mat or slow feeder that he might find fun and can't flip over.
Q: Why does my puppy run around like a crazy thing every day at 4pm?
That's the Zoomies. Zoomies are most common in puppies and young dogs, but other dogs continue to get the zoomies once in a while for their whole lives.
Times when your dog may get the Zoomies include:
When you get home from work
Late in the evening
During play
During training if overstimulated
After defecating
When something exciting happens
This is not something you can stop or fix, but if it happens on a regular basis and you know what triggers it, you can at least direct them to be in a safe space when it is likely to occur.
