OMG I have a puppy now what do I do?

Puppies are amazing but they are also a lot of hard work, troublesome, a responsibility and sometimes it is all overwhelming!

Whether you have raised a puppy before or not, each one will be different, what works for one might not work for another.

The first rule for puppies is be consistent, relentlessly consistent.  Oh and of course positive training methods, reward based.

5 things to do before you bring the puppy home

  • Get all the supplies you need - collar, leash, toys, crate, gates, food, dishes, cleaning supplies!

  • Puppy-proof your homeremove hazards like electrical cords, toxic plants, small objects, secure cabinets and trash cans. Create a safe space for your puppy to explore and rest.

  • Schedule a new puppy vet visit to discuss vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick prevention, and any other necessary preventative care to keep your puppy healthy.

  • Set up the puppy's sleeping area, figure out the schedule - best to put it in writing, research puppy classes in your area

  • Discuss responsibilities and expectations with family members.
